Answers

1. As a literary form, hypertext fiction has been around for decades. Perhaps the best known example is the "Choose Your Own Adventure" series of novels that were popular in the 1980s and 1990s. The most well-known publisher of electronic (computer-based) hypertext fiction is Eastgate Systems. Although thise genre has drawn inspiration from a number of sources, many hypertext publishers have been influenced most directly by Infocomics (a series of hypertext storybooks published by Infocom in the 1980s) and by VisTrails (a provenance management system developed at the University of Utah). 2. First, decide what story you want to tell. Most hypertext publishers suggest writing down your story as a storyboard and working on each character's path through the story separately. Your story's plot will dictate when the characters' paths intersect and diverge.

As you develop each character's path, plan strategic locations where you want to insert links from one character's path to another. Make sure you have prepared text and/or artwork for each page of your story. Once you have everything planned out and ready, you can then go on to create the file. 3. Yes, but it is likely not during my lifetime. Translating this story into hypertext fiction has been complicated and I will continue to work as much as possible. But for now, it is complete enough for my assignment!! YAY!
